Cyclic Arg-Gly-Asp peptide-labeled liposomes for targeting drug therapy of hepatic fibrosis in rats.
Targeting hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) has been challenging due to the lack of specific receptors or motifs on the cells. The aim of the present study was to develop a HSC-specific system for improving drug delivery to HSCs. The affinity of a cyclic peptide containing Arg-Gly-Asp (cRGD) to collagen type VI receptor on HSCs was examined in both in vitro and in vivo experiments. Sterically stabl...
متن کاملInduction of apoptosis of integrin-expressing human prostate cancer cells by cyclic Arg-Gly-Asp peptides.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths among men in the United States. We have investigated the effect of cyclo-(Arg-Gly-Asp-D-Phe-Val; cRGDfV), Arg-Gly-Asp, or Arg-Gly-Asp-Ser, on survival of human prostate cancer (LNCaP and PC-3) and normal (HEL) cells in vitro. Addition of cRGDfV (20 microg/ml) but not the linear Arg-Gly-Asp or Arg-Gly-Asp-Ser peptide induced signif...
متن کاملSynthesis of cyclic oligopeptides containing an Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) sequence.
The synthesis of cyclic RGD peptides with 8-10 residues cyclized by an amide bond and the relationship between their structure and activity (i.e. circular dichroism spectrum and inhibition of platelet aggregation) are reported. The linear peptides were synthesized by the solution method and their cyclization was performed in high dilution using DPPA.
متن کاملArg-Gly-Asp (RGD) Modified Biomimetic Polymeric Materials
The new generation of biomaterials focuses on the design of biomimetic polymeric materials that are capable of eliciting specific cellular responses and directing new tissue formation. Since Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) sequences have been found to promote cell adhesion in 1984, numerous polymers have been functionalized with RGD peptides for tissue engineering applications. This review gave the advance i...

Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) are a family of viruses within our genome with similarities to present day exogenous retroviruses. HERVs have been inherited by successive generations and it is possible that some have conferred biological benefits. However, several HERVs have been implicated in certain cancers and autoimmune diseases. This article demystifies these retroviruses by providin...
